Some DIY completed

Above left is the progress so far of the changes we are making. On the right you can see the steps and the angled cupboard both sit in almost the same floor space as the new wider steps and cupboard. The same space now gives much more storage.

On the left I have built in some drawers in the awkward area around the steps. Above the drawer within the main cupboard I will install shelving to the requirements of the  captain Jaq. That TV bracket was a pain and is in fact the 3rd one I installed. The first had a part missing, the replacement did not tilt enough making the picture dull. The 3rd is a super dooper tilt, swivel and extends also makes tea while watching a film.                                                 The next part of the project will be the stove to the right of the steps. This will involve removal of the stove to enlarge the base and to re tile around and below the stove. The last few days have been like being back at work so perhaps the stove might need to wait a while while I do a bit of relaxing and build up the energy for it.

Hi Les, is this a new found carpentry talent or is it a matter of needs must - Jaq’s needs that is!! Either way I am most imp rest - a brilliant job. Are you taking commissions? I could find lots for you to do!! Best wishes to you both.

Hi Les and Jaq!

What a great job!

I'm sure you're way ahead of me on this one, but do make sure you install at least 3/4's of an inch of cement based fireboard on top of the wood lining around the stove, then tile over that. Simply tiling over the wood lining won't protect the wood from stove heat: it may smoulder away behind the tiles waiting to burst into real and lethal flame!

Hope you don't mind me saying this......

John.

Hi Carol,
Lovely to hear from you. :) It does indeed meet my/our needs and I think Les does brilliant work. I am so impressed with what he accomplishes and when next you visit us you will surprised by how different it looks--and feels.

Hello John,
One of the first things Les did was pick up a large sheet of froreboard which is resting along the gunnel in the back hallway right now. We will also get heatproof cement to redo the stove. We certainly don't mind you saying so. We appreciate your friendly concern. Hugs to you and Jackie,
Jaq and Lesxx

Fantastic work... and you did it all in less than ninety minutes! (look at the clock!)
